The Crime at Black Dudley by Margery Allingham

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

First appearance of unusual detective Albert Campion, as a curious side character in a rather straight forward mystery. He mostly burbles around in the background, and occasionally demonstrates that all is not as it first appears. Having watched the BBC series first, I can’t help but imagine him as Peter Davison, which I suspect makes the whole thing a bit more entertaining. The publishers decided that Campion should be the focus of further tales, and I think that was for the best.
